Our Purpose
Public Domain Literature Library is an independent catalogue of ebooks drawn from the public domain. Our aim is to present these works in a way that respects their origins while making them accessible and useful to contemporary readers. We believe that literature from earlier centuries still speaks to us, and we want to help readers hear that conversation clearly.
How to Use This Catalogue
You can browse our collection by category or search for specific titles. Each book entry includes bibliographic details and, where available, a reading guide or contextual note. These notes are written to enrich your understanding without imposing a single interpretation. They may discuss historical background, themes, or literary techniques, and they often point to connections between works. For example, a note on The corsair; a romantic legend of Hell Gate might explore its romantic context, while a guide to Gudrun could trace its roots in Germanic legend.
How Books Are Organised
Our catalogue is arranged into four main categories, each designed to help you find books that match your interests:

Metadata Review
We take care to verify the bibliographic information for each ebook. This includes author names, titles, publication dates, and edition details. Where sources disagree, we note the uncertainty. We do not claim that our metadata is infallible, but we strive for accuracy and welcome corrections.
File Presentation
Most ebooks are available in multiple formats, including EPUB, Kindle, and PDF. Where possible, we have chosen editions with clean formatting and readable typography. Some older works may contain irregularities in spelling or punctuation; these are preserved as they appear in the source edition, with occasional notes where the text might be confusing. For instance, a poem from the 17th century might retain its original capitalization and line breaks, with a brief note explaining the convention.
Contextual Reading Notes
